The Lumiere Bothers, the Fathers of Documentary

 


The Lumiere Brothers where two French Brothers from the late 1800's who revolutionised modern cinema. 

Sons of a wealthy middle class photographic plate manufacture they pioneered film making more specifically Documentary. Before they began to record 'Actuality' they first invented the small holes in the sides of film which helped pull the film through the camera, they also created their own camera that could, record, develop and project the film, they called this device the "cinematograph".

Their first film was called "workers Leaving the Lumiere factory" which they filmed outside their own factory. their stile of films was the polar opposite of the main film makers of the time like George Melies. 

They pioneered going to the cinema as they would show several short films and charge 1 franck to see them.
