Robert Flaherty: Nanook of the North the first modern documentary
Robert Flaherty is a Documentary Film maker from the 1920's he created Nanook of the North the first comertualy sucsessfull documentary and the first exemple of a modern documentary.
the film is mired in controvicy both when it was released and now, back when it was released the original film was distroyed in a fire so Flaherty returned to the arctic to re shoot the entire film but re designed to be more like a modern documentary. it is controvertal now because to create a more compelloing story about inuet culture slowly vanishing Flaherty got the Inuet to hunt using a traditional method instead of useing a rifle like they would normaly, they also wore traditional clothes compaired to the mix of both western winter clothing and tradtional inuet clothes. Flaherty also used one of his partners to act as Nanooks wife as well as createing the name Nanook as his real name (Allakariallak) would be too difficult to pronaounce for western audences.
